make me beautiful..

what's this obsession with looking like the busty, semi-nude, pin-up model that pimply, hormonally imbalanced teenage boys and greasy, pot-bellied old ah peks violate themselves to?

no doubt, she probably is more gorgeous than i would ever look, even on a good hair day, and yes, occasionally, i do feel rather inadequate when i compare myself to these beautiful people, but i won't go to the extreme of permanently changing the way i look just so i can be like them..

with shows like extreme makeover and the introduction of plastic surgery clinics that offer breast enhancement and eyelid ops at community centres, i'm starting to get the idea that they're promoting, if not trying to make plastic surgery more acceptable.

call me old-fashioned, but i would only consider plastic surgery if i got into an accident and disfigured my face.. or if i had some health problem.. i don't see why people can't be comfortable with the way they look and with the bodies and faces God gave them? why do people obsess over looking perfect? filling this world with beautiful people isnt going to make it a better place. why can't we direct our resources to a more worthy cause?

ok i sound a little preachy, i know, but its disturbing isn't it? the number of people who aren't satisfied with the way they are? why does looking good have to factor in one's self confidence?

society's definitely putting too much value on looks.. up to the point where sometimes, i feel inadequate.. but when i think about it, i'm not, i guess everyone is beautiful in their own way, yea we've all heard that a million times before, but if you really think about it, nothing can be more true.. ok i guess its easy for me to say when i don't exactly look like a contestant on extreme makeover, well, apart from my teeth that is, but i think there are so many other ways to be beautiful.. for example, i could stop hating everyone so much, i could be less hostile, i could try to be nicer to people and not judge them before getting to know them.. i can change the little things about myself, like my short temper. and i can smile more. heh i'm describing myself in sec1, cos since then i've become a people-hating, grumpy, disgruntled old woman..
anyway, yea, be more positive and you'll enjoy life better.. change the little things that you can control, for example, be more assertive, speak your mind so people will listen and so they can judge you based on more than just how you look.. exercise! it makes you feel really good and makes you look really good too. don't be so unsure of yourself all the time and don't diminish yourself! you are important.. but most of all, love yourself. you can't expect other people to love you if you dont love yourself and learn to be comfortable in your own skin..

gosh i sound like i'm writing a self-help book! heh but seriously, i think the root of the problem is low self-worth.. we women need to realise that we're more than just "a hot piece of ass". who would even want to be called that!! its so degrading! we are more than just big boobs, perfect teeth, sharp noses, big double-eyelidded eyes, pouty lips and high cheekbones, we are living, breathing, feeling and most importantly thinking beings. we are all God's creatures and we are beautiful.. don't let anyone tell you otherwise..

what's also disturbing is how older women feel the pressure to look good as they age. so they turn to plastic surgery. whatever happened to ageing gracefully? whatever happened to exercising and eating a balanced diet and taking care of yourself? because there's only so much you can change on the outside, but on the inside you'll still be crap.. everyone just wants the easy way out: eat as much as you want, then go for slimming when your metabolism slows and you cant burn off the fats that's gathering around your tummy and behind.. people should learn to work for what they want.
anyway, i don't want to look like i'm 20 when i'm 60 (ok a bit of an exaggeration) yes, i want to look younger, but i'd rather do it the natural way and be healthy and real. i won't want to look fake and plastic..

so no, don't make me beautiful, i already am. :)
